July 22, 2014
accroche:
Draft editions of two National Standards of Canada for organic production systems are available for public review

Since the fall of 2013, the Working Groups (WG) and the Technical Committee on Organic Agriculture (TC) have been working on the review of the Canadian Organic Standards. Proposals for revision were received from many members of the organic sector.  Each proposal has been carefully reviewed according to the requirements set out in Section 10 of CAN/CGSB-32.310 General Principles and Management Standards and in accordance with the procedures established by the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB).

The draft amendments are now available for a period of 60 days for public review from July 22, 2014 to September 22, 2014.

To enable you to easily participate in the consultation, the following documents have been provided:

1 –CAN/CGSB-32.310 General Principles and Management Standards (draft standard)

- A draft version with tracked changes (The draft versions with tracked changes include specific numbers in the right margin that you can use to find  the item in the discussion sheets created by the WGs and the TC and copied in the minutes of the TC meetings);

A “clean” draft version without tracked changes.

2. - CAN/CGSB-32.311 Permitted Substances Lists (draft standard)

- A draft version with tracked changes.  (The draft versions with tracked changes include specific numbers in the right margin that you can use to find the item in the discussion sheets created by the WGs and the TC and copied in the minutes of the TC meetings);

- A “clean” draft version without tracked changes.

Please note that these draft standards are not applicable and that the organic standards posted on CGSB website, CAN/CGSB-32.310-2006 and  CAN/CGSB-32.311-2006 remain in force.

3- The minutes from the two meetings of the TC (December 2013 and April 2014) including the discussion sheets for each proposed amendment.

The minutes of the meeting include the discussion sheets used by the Work Groups for presenting their recommendations to the TC.  - To read arguments supporting an amendment proposition, note the number on the right margin of the draft standard  (i.e 12‐310#263a).  To  find the related discussion sheet in the minutes, use a simple search (i.e. "Find") operation using the appropriate number.

Following the Public Review

At the closing of the public review, the WGs and the TC will resume meetings to analyze all the comments submitted by the organic sector and the interested parties as well as to address new proposals that have been received. Then the CGSB will hold a first ballot where the members of the TC will decide to adopt or reject the proposed amendments.
