Our series of short films presenting organic producers active in research and innovation is now complete!

Watch and learn here about how producers and researchers are experimenting with organic apples, cranberries, tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, hops and nutraceuticals to protect these crops from weeds and get good yields.

All of these research activities are part of the Organic Science Cluster II project (2013-2018), and each film lasts from 4 to 9 minutes.

Nominations - Standards Interpretation Committee

The Standards Interpretation Committee (SIC) has been created to assist the Canadian Organic Office (COO) in the interpretation of the Canadian Organic Standard (CAN/CGSB 32.310 and CAN/CGSB 32.311), in order to achieve uniform application of the rules to all operators through various certifying bodies.

The terms of two committee members, Jean Duval and Janine Gibson, are ending in November 2014 and an additional vacant seat has to be filled. You are invited to submit nominations for these three positions. Click here [+] to learn more about the nomination process.

There will be a second Organic Science Cluster: Minister Gerry Ritz, of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, made the official announcement today, August 12 2014, on the Agricultural Campus of Dalhousie University, in Truro, where is now located the Organic Agriculture Center of Canada.

Is the use of a microwave oven in organic food preparation compliant with the Standard?

Does the prohibition against using both the organic and non-organic form of an ingredient (8.2.5) apply to different varieties of grapes used in a wine, or different flours (e.g. barley and wheat) used to bake a single bread?

A report on the 13th meeting  of the Technical Committee on Organic Agriculture

From April 13-16, 2014, the Canadian Technical Committee on Organic Agriculture met to analyze recommendations proposed for by the Working Groups responsible for the review of the Canadian Organic Standards.
