The OFC coordinates regular liaison and consultation activities with its members.

The Federation is also:

  • creating a list of brand-name agricultural inputs that are acceptable under the Organic Products Regulations;
  • working with the Canada Organic Office to develop standards interpretation tools for producers, processors and distributors who must comply with organic standards, from field to factory to warehouse;
  • participating in organic standards review activities that ensure national standards are developed according to international rules and to keep pace with research and the resulting new practices;
  • financing development projects to strengthen member organizations that represent the organic sector in each province and territory.

I spend my life energies promoting organic agriculture because it combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved!

Janine Gibson, Organic Inspector

Lastly, the Federation works in cooperation with all levels of government on harmonisation of rules, policy and support for organic agriculture and commerce. This is vitally important, as most provinces and territories do not have a regulatory framework to protect the organic claim on products marketed intra-provincially.
